ETF Lives!

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Thursday, January 17 2008 - 9:38 PM
The team over at KinderGarten is organizing a new ETF Cup for 2008.

Below is a snippet from their site.

ETF is not dead! KinderGarten is organizing a compact double elimination cup
to be held in February. This means that all clans will get to play at least 2 games. The cup schedule will be
flexible to get as many games played as possible but our aim is to get all games to be played during
February. Default team size is 8, 6vs6 is allowed if both sides agree. The use of ringers is allowed.

Please help support this and sign your team up!

Didn’t Pan Out

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Tuesday, January 30 2007 - 6:01 PM
I’m sad to report that the measures I was trying to take in getting some new life breathed back into ETF didn’t pan out.

I won’t go into great detail on the subject, but what I was attempting to do was try and get ETF distributed on a much larger scale.

I still feel very strongly to this day that ETF was and is one of the best Fortress mods that have been released. I would be kidding myself in thinking that the game still posses a thriving community but for the players that are still left playing I thank you for your support and dedication.

For the ones that continue to play ETF I also encourage you to visit PlanetETF.com as it’s well maintained and MulletMan gives great support for the mod.

I would like to close this final post with thanking everyone that gave ETF a chance and the friends I made along the way. I would also like to thank the people that worked on this mod as you were the hardest working people I have ever worked with, and I enjoyed the time we spent working side by side on this game, thank you.

ETF Launcher Preview

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Friday, December 22 2006 - 3:37 PM
While I wait on some information to come back regarding the future of ETF I wanted to share something with you.

I have been working on a launcher for the mod that will be used to execute the game and also provide up to the minute news for ETF.

Posted below is a screenshot of what the ETF Launcher looks like right now.

Enjoy

A New Wind Blows

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Tuesday, December 19 2006 - 8:49 PM
I wanted to let everyone know that still visits the site that I’m trying to work something out that might breath some new life back into this Mod. I can’t elaborate yet on what that might be, but when I can post more information I will do so.

Please check back frequently as I should be able to post some more information within a few days/weeks.

Updated Linux installer

Posted by : Slothy on Wednesday, August 17 2005 - 5:58 AM
The Loki Installer for Linux Gamers guys have updated the linux installer with a bugfix for people installing ETF using sudo (ie, not logged in as root). This will mainly affect those people running (k)ubuntu distros.

For more information, visit their website here.

Our mirrors have been updated with the new file and our linux installer download page has now also been updated to reflect this updated installer.

Installer Mix Up

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Wednesday, July 20 2005 - 4:44 PM
If you downloaded ETF (Windows Installers Only) from the ETF-Center Mirror in the first few hours after release we ask that you download version 1.6 again from another mirror if you are having problems.

I am in the process of uploading the proper installers to ETF-Center again and they will be updated within the hour.

We removed the affected ETF-Center mirror links so once fixed we will update the mirror lists with their links.

If you're downloading from etf-center.com after this news item was posted, your copy of ETF 1.6 should be ok.

ETF 1.6 Released

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Wednesday, July 20 2005 - 1:23 PM
ETF 1.6 has been released and is ready for download!

First I would like to thank everyone that helped out in the bug testing for 1.5 beta, because we would not have 1.6 if it was not for your help, thank you.

Below is the change log for 1.5 to 1.6

Code / Gameplay / GUI
- Added mousewheel support in UI listboxes
- Added medkit ammo to q3f-1h HUD
- fixed rotating doors getting stuck

Maps
- Added smartbases2

Other
- Added off-line documentation (docs folder) for classes, weapons, hud editing, and server admin
(map guides are available through documentation, but referenced online)

We would also like to point out that the mp_bin no longer holds server binaries, so you will not be able to just extra that file to update your servers. You will need to run the Full/Update Installers and Zip for the Linux update to update your server.

It would be stupid not to pimp this new video by Kaktuz which is probably the best ETF movie I have ever seen. If you have not seen it yet then you need to grab this amazing flick and watch it right away. Download Here

Below is a complete list from the change log.

I would also like to encourage everyone to check out #spontanetf on the QuakeNet IRC server for some awesome pickup games!

1.5 confusion

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Sunday, June 26 2005 - 3:38 PM
There has been some confusion in the community regarding version 1.5 of ETF. I would like to state that ETF 1.4 is still our current stable version. 1.5 was just for the community to test and report bugs back to us so we could address them.

The reason we have done this is because our testing method before did not seem to pan out because release after release we still had bugs that should have been caught at the QA level. Please don’t look at 1.5 as a stable release but look at it as beta and help us squash the bugs so we can release a very stable version on the next release.

The ETF Dev team wants to thank everyone that has and will help us nail down the bugs in the 1.5 open beta.

ETF 1.5 Open Beta Released

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Friday, June 24 2005 - 10:40 PM
ETF 1.5 has been released to the public but I would like to remind everyone that this is a Beta version so bugs are bound to be present. Please post any bugs you find here in this thread.

Mirrors: Right now we only have 2 mirrors setup for the beta but if you decide to put up a mirror please let me know and we will link it. You can grab the beta here.

Also the change log is posted below so please take a look over that for what has changed between builds.

ETF 1.5 to release as an open beta

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Thursday, June 23 2005 - 10:58 AM
ETF 1.5 Open Beta

Yes you read that right, ETF 1.5 Open Beta. We have decided to take a new approach with the game and start to release our beta builds to the public for testing. We will take the feedback we get from the community and go back with that information and fix anything that needs to be fixed and then re-release that build (this does not imply we will make any change that is suggested). We hope this will help us release better builds and bring less stress to the player for future releases.

Below is a change log for ETF 1.5 Beta

1.5 Changelog

NOTE: *** omni-bot linux requires libstdc++.so.5 *** : ETF will work without it, but without bot support

-Border map added
-Fixed assaultforts leak
-Fixed unix needing other libraries to run servers
-Fixed crusher doors and trains
-Removed backpacks for civilians, no longer drop empty backpacks
-Added g_teamFrags
-Fixed detpack not clearing in blackhole entity
-Sentry damage increased
-Medic can hold 1 less gren1

ETF 1.5 Open Beta will be released in the coming days

ETF_Industrial Open Beta

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Tuesday, June 21 2005 - 5:12 PM
We have decided to release one of our official maps to you as a beta for public testing of its game play. The map is called industrial and is an Assault style map. The goal of the map is to have the offense team place 2 bombs (HE charges) on 2 markers to end the round and win the match. The defense will get points for how long they can hold the other team from blowing the marked points.

I ask that server admins also try and load this map on their server so we can get some proper full games for testing. Also please post your findings here in this thread.

You can grab the map here.

Are you a ETF Newb and need some Help?

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Wednesday, June 8 2005 - 6:52 PM
Well then I think we have just the video for you. One of our players (timisdaman) in the community put together a very well done video teaching you how to Bunnyhop, Rocket Jump, Grenade Jump & Stun/Conc Jump. If you are looking to learn the mad skillz that the other players have then grab this video!

You can grab the video from filefront here or grab a low quality version hosted by Engine here.

You will need the Divx codec

Linux Server Workaround

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Wednesday, June 8 2005 - 11:06 AM
If you are having trouble getting your Linux server running then we would like to point you to this download to update to the gcc version 3 c++ library, this is just a workaround and its at the server admins discretion to update or not.

I would like to thank eNGinE for hosting the runtime file.

1.4 Fix Update and a peak into 1.5

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Tuesday, June 7 2005 - 1:24 PM
We have corrected the issue with the installer and our listed mirrors have the fixed release. If you were having problems with your game I suggest downloading and reinstalling ETF.

I have some information for our next release that I would also like to share. Below is an early change log for 1.5

- working mapsentries
- movers aren't stopped by bodies / backpacks
- fixed assaultforts
- linux no longer requires glibc 2.3
- Border (Map)

I think we all can agree the map Border alone will be worth the download!

ETF 1.4 Problem Part2

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Thursday, June 2 2005 - 4:25 PM
We have found a problem in our Windows Full Installer which has an old copy of the pak2 file. We are in the process of fixing the full installer and will be updating the mirrors soon.

If you have installed the full version of 1.4 and having a problem connecting to a server we ask that you download the windows update for 1.4. This will copy over the correct pak2 file fixing the issue.

ETF 1.4 Problem

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Thursday, June 2 2005 - 1:25 PM
We have encountered a problem when joining 1.4 servers and the pak2 trying to be downloaded. To counter this problem you can turn auto download off in the settings for now.

We are looking into why this is happening and will post more information soon.

1.4 Release Date Pushed Back

Posted by : LaVaGoD on Monday, May 16 2005 - 9:50 AM
Ok I have never had to do this in the life time of this mod and I hope I never have to do it again.

I have to push the release of ETF 1.4 back a few days due to some personal things that happened to me and my family this weekend, but it will only be a few days. We were unable to do some final tests on the release version of the installers and want to make sure there are no problems so by pushing the date back a few days will insure you the player have a more solid release of 1.4

Please check back in the next few days for more information.
